Grand Tour of Outpost and Hollywood

THE OUTPOST SIGN

Subject of a 30-minute Huell Howser Show - and still on the mountainside above Outpost Estates - here is the original 1924 OUTPOST sign.  Allthough it has fallen over, it's mostly intact today because of its heavy metal construction.  A "sister" to the more famous "Hollywoodland" sign (which now just says Hollywood), the OUTPOST sign was "one of the largest neon signs in the world."   It was visible from all over LA, just like the Hollywood sign.  This picture of Outpost Drive - before traffic, houses, and trees - was taken around 1924.
